Good show. All the fellows did a good job and thank for having Dr. Trueman on the show. One question, isn’t it right and fitting to have a love for one’s country over and above other countries? Should I love my mother more than I love other mothers? And in doing so, shouldn’t I understand how other men love their mothers more than mine? There is certainly the reality that my mother may not be the best in the whole world, but I should still love her most. Same applies to one’s country. Anyway, just and idea. Thanks for the show!

Very good point. Thanks for raising it. Yes, of course, I agree. I hope the interview didn’t give the impression that I am opposed to patriotism (which I believe is a sound civic virtue). I am more concerned with a kind of, for want of a better word, nationalism that sees other nations as inferior, is blind to the faults of one’s own country, and invests a theological significance in ethnicity or nation which is idolatrous.

If I didn’t love my mother more than I loved yours (whom I have never met), I hope my mum would hit me with a frying pan.

      Hope this clarifies things,

      CRT

Are you then saying that all political systems, all levels of freedom or tyranny are morally equivalent? That they cannot be evaluated philosophically, or under Scripture, or by their results? That the kingdom of the left hand is separate from Christ?

I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naïve. (Romans 16:17-18)
